About Wool-E Farm

Wool-E Farm started in 1996 with the purchase of two Romney ewes. Romney was chosen for the wool versatility. Twelve years later, with over 100 lambs born on our farm, we have a flock of 30 resident sheep. They are chosen for their breed standards of wool quality, lambing/mothering abilities, and mild flavored meat.

Sheep

The American Romney sheep has been developed from the original Romney Marsh breed of the county of Kent, England. By breeding and selection the extremely hardy Romney Marsh sheep, having the characteristic of fast growing lambs and good wool production, was developed under the traditionally rugged climatic conditions of southeastern England. The Romney Marsh sheep was first introduced into the United States in 1904.

The Romney breed is well named as a dual-purpose breed. It is found in every type of farming environment. This versatile sheep produces top quality fleeces and lean tasty market lambs.

Romney sheep produce a fleece of high lustre and spinnability. Spinning counts run from a low 40 to a high 55. White fleeces are free of brown or black. Natural color fleeces range from a very light (almost cream) to gray to very dark (black) with variations within the same fleece. Uniformity in crimp is extremely important.

Check the American Romney Breeders Association website for breeders in your area. These sheep are a great asset to any sheep farm.
